Anthony P Postiglione Jr asserts that The Union League of Philadelphia was established in 1862 as a patriotic organization to promote the union and President Abraham Lincoln’s policies. In a nation torn apart by the Civil War, the philosophical foundations of other Union Leagues were established by the Union League of Philadelphia. Amor Patriae Ducit, or “Love of Country Leads,” was the Union League’s founding adage. Over 4000 men and women live in the Union League today, where they contribute to club life and preserve the League’s traditions. Today’s members, just as they did in 1862, represent the business, education, technology, healthcare, law, government, religion, art, and culture leaders of the Philadelphia region.
