Anthony Postiglione Jr states that a young man by the name of Felipe visited Dr.Graces, who is slender, exhausted, and dying of thyroid cancer. His coworkers watched as his health deteriorated while he was working as a butcher at Tinto. They were always ignored by Felipe, who insisted that he was fine. His coworkers took him to Dr. Garces’s dental office one day. Felipe’s terminal illness was immediately apparent to Dr. Garces. She took him to the University of Pennsylvania hospital’s emergency room. Dr. Garces stayed by his side and did everything she could for him for a year. He was unfortunate to have missed it. Due to immigrants’ limited access to appropriate medical care, a disease that could have been treated with thyroid removal had gone unnoticed for too long.

The goal of the Felipe Garces Foundation, which was established in his honor, is to make sure that immigrants have access to the resources they need to live healthy, educated, and nutritious lives. The Garces Foundation is of the opinion that affordable educational and healthcare resources should be available to all.
